Where it began • 22 March 2023

One Ugadi visit became a much larger purpose.

Time spent with elderly residents at Ananda Vihar made something very clear: care is not only practical. Companionship, respect and emotional connection matter just as much.

Why we exist

A stronger society begins when generations understand and support one another.

The Progenitor works to foster emotional cohesiveness between younger and older generations and to improve awareness of the realities, rights and needs of senior citizens.

Our work brings together community programmes, volunteering, technology mentoring, support for old age homes, health and wellbeing initiatives, civic awareness, knowledge sharing and constructive inputs for policy.

Connect generations

Awareness, seminars, voluntary networks, community programmes and online engagement that bring younger and older people together.

Support senior communities

Practical assistance to old age homes, including food, clothing and other needs of elderly residents.

Advance senior welfare

Civic consciousness, better standards of living and thoughtful suggestions for policy and legislation concerning senior citizens.

Encourage younger people to mentor seniors in smartphones, applications, online transactions, digital safety and everyday technology.

Encourage senior citizens to lead and participate in programmes that support health, happiness, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Create articles, videos and other useful materials that strengthen awareness and understanding around senior welfare.

Our evolution

It started with a festival visit and grew into a long-term commitment.

On Ugadi, 22 March 2023, a small group visited an old age home in an individual capacity to celebrate with elderly residents. The warmth with which the residents welcomed the group, and their candid conversations about family, loneliness and companionship, left a lasting impression.

The experience showed us that material comfort alone cannot replace love, respect, belonging and emotional connection. That realisation led to recurring visits to old age homes, medical check-ups, support with food and clothing, and a wider effort to spend meaningful time with senior citizens.

Motivated by this cause, a group of like-minded professionals and social workers came together, including Dr. S. S. Meenakshisundram, Shri Ravindra Bhandary, Dr. Nagaraj Moorthy, Shri Pushkar Sinha, Shri Manoj Kumar Das, Shri M. G. Pandit, Shri K. Virupaksha, Shri Binay Kumar, Shri Sridhar V. Naik, Mrs S. Kanimozhi and others. Their shared purpose was to support companionship, emotional wellbeing and practical care for senior citizens.

During these interactions, the group realised that the challenge went beyond social service. It was also about rebuilding emotional bridges between generations. Jain (Deemed-to-be University) was approached with an initiative encouraging students to visit old age homes, listen to life stories, learn from older residents and reflect on the experience with fellow students.

The response from students was encouraging. Their reflections highlighted lessons in empathy, resilience, gratitude, compassion and humanity that no classroom can teach on its own. To carry this work forward in a structured and sustainable manner, The Progenitor was established and registered as a charitable trust on 03 August 2026.
